The third category of available massages,
are called Energy massages. These include Reiki, Chakra, Raindrop Therapy, and
Tuning Fork Therapy.
Reiki is a healing practice that was developed by Mikao Usui in 1926. It is a technique where the therapist places their hands on different parts of the
clients’ body and moves “healing energy” through their palms, while helping to realign the body’s energy.
This has a deeply relaxing effect, but it is also believed to aid in healing of a number of ailments.
Chakra Sound massage is based on an Eastern medicinal practice designed to awaken the bodies’ seven natural energy
systems. When the chakras are unbalanced it can disrupt the harmony of the body
on all levels. This particular technique utilizes Tibetan brass singing bowls
to balance this energy. The vibrations and beautiful sound created by the striking
of the bowl stirs up old stagnant energy providing a feeling of deep peace and wellness.
Raindrop Therapy is a technique which uses essential oils in a sequence like raindrops on the back. It is then lightly massaged in feathery strokes along the vertebrae and back muscles. The main purpose of this treatment is to stimulate the organs, muscles and bones of the body at a cellular
level. In doing so it can boost the immune system through the release of
toxins where they are lodged throughout the body, including those held in the mind and emotions. This can lead to a wonderful sense of well being, relaxation and energy, as well as healing.

Tuning Forks are used in another form of sound therapy. They aren’t just for science or music. The
resonant tones of these simple instruments can be used for healing. Similar to
the Tibetan singing bowls, these forks use sound and vibration. Focused, conscientious sound creates resonance and harmony.
By using sound intentionally from a neutral space in a quiet, peaceful environment, healing and higher levels of conscious
awareness can occur.
All the treatments and therapies explained
are considered to be Complementary and Alternative Medicine, (commonly referred to as CAM.)
CAM is a group of diverse medical and health care systems, practices, and products that are not generally considered
to be part of regular medicine. They can work a great deal in helping to treat
a number of ailments and conditions, but as it says in the name, they should be used complimentary to your doctor. You should never do these in replacement of seeing a doctor, and you should speak with your doctor prior
to beginning any treatment program for an illness or injury.
So we’ve established that one of the first and most important things to confirm when scheduling a massage, or
finding a new therapist, is ensuring that they are well trained and licensed. Here
are some other things you may want to ask about or look into in order to determine that you have found a great therapist,
as well as a professional and upscale spa. Overall cleanliness is very important. If the surroundings don’t look exceptionally clean then it is possible that
this may reflect on your massage. You will be lying undressed on a table; you
should feel confident that the room, as well as the blankets and sheets, are fresh and clean.
